Self-Defense at Aikido New London County

At Aikido New London County, our self-defense programs are designed to help people move through the world with greater awareness, confidence, and practical skills.

Our training focuses on awareness, balance, and real-world situations — not brute strength.

We offer both free community events and private self-defense training depending on your needs.

Women-led

Our self-defense training is led by a female instructor who understands the real concerns many women carry every day. The goal isn’t to prove toughness—it’s to give practical tools and confidence in situations women are statistically more likely to face.

Real Situations, Not Fear-Mongering

Our training focuses on realistic situations and practical responses without using scare tactics. The goal is to help people feel more capable and prepared, not more afraid. We teach simple, thoughtful strategies that help you recognize risk, respond clearly, and leave with greater confidence.

Simple Skills You Can Remember

In a stressful moment, complicated techniques disappear. Our training focuses on a few practical responses that are easy to recall and execute under pressure—even if you’ve never taken a martial arts class before.

No Experience Required

These classes are designed for everyday people. You don’t need to be athletic, flexible, or have any martial arts background. We start from the ground up in a supportive and welcoming environment.

  • I’ve attended multiple self defense classes and sat in on some other events at this dojo. As someone who hasn’t ever been passionate about martial arts, I was very impressed with how easy it was for me to be hyped up and get into it! Aldrich Sensei makes the courses accessible to beginners and people who are a bit shy. She makes it fun while holding appropriate structure to get through the lessons. The vibes are: inspiring, welcoming, and empowering!

    Kristine W.

  • "Even as a total beginner, I never felt lost. The step-by-step structure and encouragement along the way made all the difference."

    Former Customer

  • "This has been such a worthwhile investment in myself."
